Your private desert tour from Fes begins with an early pickup from your riad or hotel. Travel comfortably through the Middle Atlas Mountains, stopping at Ifrane, which is often called the “Switzerland of Morocco,” and the Azrou cedar forest, which is home to wild Barbary monkeys.
Continue on to Midelt for lunch, then drive along the beautiful Ziz Valley, which is known for its palm groves and views of oases. Get to Merzouga, the gateway to the Sahara Desert, by late afternoon. Take a camel ride across the Erg Chebbi dunes at sunset, then have dinner and spend the night in a luxury desert camp under the stars.
✔️ Things to do: Ifrane, Azrou, Ziz Valley, camel trek, and watching the sunset in the Sahara
✔️ Breakfast: included
✔️ Overnight: A luxury desert camp in Merzouga
Your first stop is the charming mountain town of Ifrane, often referred to as the “Switzerland of Morocco” due to its alpine-style architecture, clean streets, and cool climate. Take a short break to admire its unique setting and perhaps snap a photo with the iconic stone lion statue.
Continue your journey through the cedar forests of Azrou, home to the famous Barbary macaques. Stop here to stretch your legs and, if you’re lucky, observe these playful monkeys in their natural habitat — a fun and memorable encounter for nature lovers and families alike.
After lunch in Midelt, a town known for its apple orchards and located at the foot of the Middle Atlas Mountains, you’ll cross the dramatic Ziz Valley, famous for its palm groves and lush oases nestled among the arid mountains.
• Enjoy scenic views of the Ziz Valley with its lush palm groves
• Pass through Erfoud, famous for fossils and date palms
• Arrive in Merzouga and prepare for your desert adventure
• Ride a camel through the **Erg Chebbi dunes** at sunset
• Enjoy dinner and Berber music at your desert luxury or standar camp
Wake up early to witness a magical sunrise over the Sahara dunes. After breakfast, take a camel or 4×4 back to Merzouga and then keep going to Rissani, a historic trading town that used to be the capital of Tafilalt.
Drive through desert landscapes to reach the impressive Todra Gorges, with their towering canyon walls, perfect for short walks and photos. After lunch, continue along the Road of a Thousand Kasbahs to the beautiful Dades Valley, known for its dramatic rock formations and traditional kasbahs.
🛏️ Overnight: Hotel Rose Garden Dades or similar
🍽️ Dinner & breakfast included
After a hearty breakfast in the peaceful Dades Valley, continue your journey along the legendary Road of the Thousand Kasbahs, a historic route lined with ancient fortresses and traditional Berber villages. This scenic drive offers incredible photo opportunities and a more profound look into Morocco’s rich architectural heritage.
Your next stop is Ouarzazate, often called the “Hollywood of Africa,” where world-famous films like Gladiator, Game of Thrones, and The Mummy were filmed. Here, you can take a brief tour around the Atlas Film Studios or stop at the Kasbah Taourirt, one of the most impressive kasbahs in the region.
Just a short drive away lies the crown jewel of southern Morocco—the UNESCO-listed Ksar of Ait Ben Haddou. This fortified village, with its mudbrick towers and dramatic desert setting, is a masterpiece of traditional Moroccan architecture and a must-see for culture and history lovers. Wander through its narrow alleys and climb to the top for panoramic views over the surrounding valley.
In the afternoon, begin your scenic ascent through the High Atlas Mountains, passing Berber hamlets and enjoying sweeping views of rugged peaks and green valleys. Cross the famous Tizi n’Tichka Pass (2,260 meters), the highest mountain pass in Morocco, before descending toward the vibrant Red City of Marrakech.
Arrive in Marrakech by early evening, where your driver will drop you off at your hotel or riad—marking the end of an unforgettable 3-day desert adventure from Fes to Marrakech.
🚐 Drop-off: Hotel or riad in Marrakech

Every detail was handled with care, and nothing was overlooked. Idris and Ngassa anticipated needs before they even arose and consistently ensured our safety and comfort.Their dedication felt like more than just a job — it felt like a true calling. They kept our group organized while still giving us the freedom to be ourselves. The pacing of each activity was perfect: engaging, well-balanced, and never overwhelming. The desert experience was absolutely phenomenal. The clear skies and beautiful weather made it unforgettable.I highly recommend this tour. Anyone who joins will not be disappointed.Posted on Martine pVerified Desert trip Ismael a great guide, friendly and attentive. Makes a good team with the driver too. An interesting experience for first time desert goers.Posted on Jet55580682735Verified A great alternative route to Fez from Marrakech Ismail was a great tour guide. Stops on the road were well spread out and interesting. We were kept informed of the plan everyday and he made sure everyone was comfortable and got what they needed. It's a lot of time in the car (to be expected) and it was cold in the desert in December so plan accordingly!Posted on Dakota FVerified Desert tour with great guides Yousef is the best super fun and knowledgeable he made the tour so special we had so much fun with him he was the life of the party and everything went well because of him and Jafar jafar os the best driver in Morocco this was my favourite experience here you have to do it !Posted on Jaden TVerified Sahara in Style I had the most amazing Sahara trip with Morocco Tour! The guide, Moha, and the driver, Jaafar were great and treated me and everybody else on my tour like family. The stops made along the way towards the desert were led by local guides and were well thought out. The desert camp was the highlight of the trip, starting with arriving by camel. The tents were clean and modern, and had electricity along with hot water. Along with these amenities, there were other activities such as sand boarding and a sunrise atv ride. 10/10 would recommend to anybody who wants to see the Sahara and values excellent hospitality.
